Apply for a Rising Star Travel Award!

The Society of General Physiologists is excited to offer new Rising Star Travel Awards to students and postdoctoral researchers to attend scientific meetings and courses. These awards recognize individuals with the potential to make significant contributions to the field of general physiology and are intended to foster greater engagement among physiologists worldwide. Individuals from underrepresented groups within the fields of physiology and biophysics are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Committee expects to award up to eight travel grants of $500 each per year–four to students and four to postdoctoral fellows. For questions, please contact SGP at office@sgpweb.org.

The application deadline for the 2025/2026 round of the SGP Rising Star Travel Awards is 15 January 2026. Successful applicants can use their awards for meetings and courses taking place within one year of the award notification date. 

 Eligibility: 

• The applicant must be a student or postdoctoral fellow
• The applicant must be an SGP member
  
  

Application Requirements:

1. Cover letter (no more than one page) summarizing the applicant’s research accomplishments and the rationale for attending the meeting or course
   
   
2. Curriculum Vitae (maximum two pages)
   
   
3. Two letters of recommendation, including one from the applicant’s current mentor.
   The mentor must be an SGP member. If not already a member, the mentor may join the Society prior to submitting the letter.
